Saferay was founded in 2010 by an experienced team which had previously built Q-Cells International from scratch into the largest system integrator of solar plants in the world within 2 years. The team's mission is to create a new kind of independent power producer that solely focuses on solar PV. The team has completed more than 900 MW of utility-scale solar power plants on five continents:

Europe: Italy, France, Czech Republic, Germany, UK, Spain
Americas: Canada, USA, Mexico, Chile
Asia/Pacific: Japan, Australia

Saferay developed rapidly during its first two years of existence, building 45 MW during the first six month of its existence, and adding another 125 MW in the first full year of operation.

After setting up a Japanese branch in 2012, saferay developed and installed more than 170 MW in Japan by 2020. The company keeps most of the power plants on its own balance sheet as IPP.

Saferay also provides specialised O&M services for third parties.

As of 2023, Saferay is currently operating 415 MW worldwide. The company is currently active with a large team spread across Germany, Chile, the US, Japan, and Singapore.
